Feyenoord City to next phase

The management boards of Feyenoord Rotterdam NV and Stadium Feijenoord are entering the next phase of the preparations for the construction of the new stadium. In it, the final design for the new stadium and the financing will be further elaborated and completed.

New Stadium B.V. will call in the second tranche of bridge financing. The stadium, together with an extensive area development, forms the Feyenoord City project. Operation NL has been working on the strategy for Feyenoord City since the very beginning in 2015 and then in the project management and financial engineering. We are also involved in the program of requirements for the new stadium.

ISG “positive” about business case
The updating of the business case has been completed and assessed by the International Stadia Group (ISG) as positive on all aspects. In the preparation of the updated business case, the best use was made of previous research results from ISG and once again a sharp look at all income and costs was taken into account. One of the adjustments is that New Stadium will outsource part of the catering industry. Stadion and Feyenoord can therefore focus on their core activities. This also means that the activities and income of the Kameraadjes and of Het Legioen remain with the BVO. The number of business chairs has also been reduced and brought into line with demand as it emerges from ISG’s market research.

Within the budget
The preliminary design has been optimized and fits – with the retention of all the necessary functionalities, the atmosphere and the iconic character of the design – within the available building budget. Close attention has been paid to ensuring that the design and business case are aligned and that all the income included in the business case can be achieved with the design.

Contribution to player budget
By acquiring at least € 30 million extra equity for the new building, a fixed and annually indexable contribution of at least € 25 million per year to Feyenoord’s player budget is made possible. Feyenoord and Stadion are now focusing all their attention on the further careful preparations of the new building, the selection of a construction partner and the further completion of the financing. The aim here is that further elaborations lead to an even better result for Feyenoord.
